Notice for clubs in Irish Hockey Competition

The Hockey Ireland Management Board and Irish Hockey Umpires Association (IHUA), in conjunction with the IHA Umpire Development Working Group, have been concerned with the decline in the number of umpires throughout Ireland. This becomes even more apparent when Irish competitions are being played on the same day as provincial competitions. To help this situation and to try and increase the number of qualified umpires from within the clubs, all clubs entering Irish competitions MUST have included the details of a named, qualified umpire with their entry form.
The papers on NATIONAL UMPIRE RECRUITMENT outline how this system will be managed. An ‘Easy Guide’ has also been prepared to help all clubs understand their obligations and which has a list of all the current national panel umpires.

It is strongly recommended that each club as big of pool of umpires as possible to ensure they meet the requirements week to week throughout all Irish Competitions.
The IHUA is organising a number of umpiring courses in each province before the start of Season 2015-16. These courses will allow clubs to have their qualified umpires ready for the coming season and START SOON!

These are the ONLY courses available prior to the competition registration period ending and Irish Competitions beginning.
Clubs have already started registering their umpires – IF NOT ALREADY INVOLVED, YOUR CLUB ALSO NEEDS TO ACT NOW TO ENSURE YOUR REGISTRATION IS ACCEPTED.
