Olympic Dividend Newsletter Vol 2

Olympic Dividend Newsletter Vol 2

May 30, 2016

Introduction

You will have received previous correspondence with regard to the ‘Olympic Dividend’. I plan to present a simple weekly newsletter that will aim to share as much information as possible with interested persons. You can then use that information to advise your club members via the various electronic vehicles that you use. I will also look forward to the club representatives passing on information to me so that I can share it.

The Irish team

The IHA funding to take part in the Olympics is about €225K short of the required amount. The Association is endeavouring to bridge that gap through a number of initiatives.  To date over €100,000 has been donated. See www.hockey.ie for details.

The LHA board have contributed €1,000 to the campaign.

The LHA action to achieve a dividend from Olympic participation

The LHA are suggesting two sets of actions as follows: -

  • We are proposing that as many clubs as possible might organise a regular weekly hour of hockey from the start of June through the Olympic games in August.
  • On the one of the days that Ireland are playing at the Olympics that a club organise an event in association with the game. This would culminate with people congregating to watch the game on a big screen in a club house or other venue.

Quote of the week

I will throw in a sports commentator mess-up with each issue. This week its from David Coleman (BBC) ‘That’s the fastest time ever run – but its not as fast as the world record’

Together we can make a difference!!!!!!
