Introduction
You will have received previous correspondence with regard to the Olympic dividend. I am now planning to do up a simple weekly newsletter that will aim to share as much information as possible with interested persons. You can then use that information to advise your club members via the various electronic vehicles that you use. I will also look forward to the club reps passing on information to me so that I can share it - brendancarr34@gmail.com
The Irish Team
The government funding was about €225K short of the requested figure. The IHA is endeavouring to bridge that gap through a number of initiatives. These include:
A crowd funding initiative whereby donations can be made via a link on the www.hockey.ie website.
- A golf classic on 27th May
- An evening with guest speakers @ Double Tree Hilton hotel including Joe Schmidt on 26th May
The LHA action
The LHA are suggesting two sets of actions as follows: -
- We are proposing that as many clubs as possible might organise a regular weekly hour of hockey from the start of June through the Olympic games in August. The Board is not specifying any particular format. However it is recommended that the emphasis should be on encouraging adults who are not currently playing league hockey to get involved and to ‘give it a go’.
- There are many people out there who played some hockey in the past and these might be encouraged back to play. There are also many people related to existing players who could be approached, for example: the parents of the youth members, sisters, brothers husbands, wives, partners, cousins of players, neighbours of players, work colleagues, On-line associates, etc: Each and every player could be encouraged to be a recruitment sergeant!!!! Action around the Clubs
Each week we will publish what activities clubs have organised. Let me know so that we can share the information. We know that Three Rock Rovers have at least two hour sessions pencilled in from early June. St James Gate has a one hour session for youths from June. Suttonians have a blitz organised for late May. We know that many clubs are planning to do something.
Together we can make a difference!!!!!!
