Irish Women's Golf Classic

The Irish Women’s Hockey Team are hosting a fundraising golf classic on Friday 26th September 2014 in Edmondstown Golf club, Rathfarnham to help them achieve their goal in representing Ireland in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
How you can help us
Our drive and motivation comes from narrowly missing out for qualification to the London 2012 Olympics. This has given us the determination to work even harder so that we can go one step further and represent our country in Rio 2016. We are incredibly determined and are working tirelessly to make history to bring an Irish women’s hockey team to the Olympics in Rio in two years time.
We are currently ranked 15th in the world and are constantly trying to improve. We recently played in the world ranking tournament, the Champions Challenge I in Glasgow in April 2014. We were seeded 7th out of 8 teams, competed against 4 world cup teams and secured 2nd place. On our route to the final, where we narrowly lost to USA, we beat the world number 8, Korea and world number 11, South Africa. We have already passed the first qualification hurdle for Rio and we are on to the next one in World League 2, which we are hosting in Ireland from the 14th – 22nd March 2015.
Our team only consists of amateur hockey players, however we train like professionals. A typical week may include 4 strength & conditioning sessions, often with a 6am start before work, 5 on-field training sessions, & multiple tactical meetings. This year there are 35+ international test matches alone! So as you can see, we are incredibly committed to getting the Irish Women’s Hockey Team to the Olympics – and by doing so, making history. But what difference can you make by donating to our team? Quite a lot actually! Our National Coach Darren Smith has said:

Any support that you can offer will be used directly with the program to give that extra push to achieve our best performance.
