U14 Indoor: Avoca & Three Rock Rovers Claim Cup Titles
January 26, 2026
A fantastic U14 Indoor Tournament came to a close this weekend, wrapping up four action-packed weekends of indoor hockey with a brilliant finals day in Portrane.
Across the day, the Girls’ and Boys’ Cup competitions delivered high-quality hockey, drama, and memorable performances, with teams competing for the McCann Cup (Girls) and the Tommy O’Sullivan Cup (Boys).
Both competitions followed the same format, with teams qualifying from the opening two weekends before progressing to a round-robin finals day. The top two teams from each group advanced to the final, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
U14 McCann Cup (Girls)
Seven teams battled it out for the McCann Cup: Railway Union, Old Alex, Weston, Monkstown, Avoca, Skerries, and hosts Portrane. From the opening matches, it was clear the competition would be extremely tight, with three of the first five games ending in draws.
As the day progressed, Weston, Monkstown, and Avoca began to gain momentum, creating a closely contested race for the top two places. With two games remaining, Weston secured a crucial 1–0 win over Monkstown, while Avoca edged past Skerries by the same scoreline to remain firmly in contention.
The decisive fixture came between Avoca and Monkstown, with Weston already securing a top-two finish following a draw with Portrane. Monkstown entered the match on 10 points, with Avoca just one point behind. In a high-quality and competitive encounter, Avoca produced a superb performance to claim a 2–0 victory, booking their place in the final against Weston.
The final lived up to expectations, delivering a thrilling, end-to-end contest filled with excellent individual and team play. The match finished 3–3, meaning the title would be decided by 1v1s. In a tense shootout, Avoca edged the contest 3–2, securing the McCann Cup title.
Congratulations to Avoca and all involved on a fantastic achievement.

Tommy O’Sullivan Cup (Boys)
Six teams competed for the Tommy O’Sullivan Cup: Corinthians, Railway Union, YMCA, Three Rock Rovers, Monkstown, and Avoca.
From the outset, Three Rock Rovers set an impressive pace, delivering strong performances throughout the round-robin stage. They finished unbeaten, recording four wins and a draw, the latter coming against Railway Union.
The battle for the second final spot went right down to the final games, with Railway Union and Corinthians both in contention. Going into the final round, Corinthians sat on nine points, with Railway Union on seven. Railway’s 1–0 win over Avoca put pressure on Corinthians, who earned a 1–1 draw with YMCA.
This left both teams level on points, wins, draws, losses, and goal difference. The final place in the decider was decided on head-to-head, which saw Corinthians progress after their earlier 2–1 victory over Railway Union.
The final was another classic, as Three Rock Rovers faced Corinthians in a fast-paced, goal-filled encounter. In a thrilling contest, Three Rock Rovers edged a 3–2 win, lifting the Tommy O’Sullivan Cup after a superb performance.
A huge congratulations to Three Rock Rovers on a fantastic achievement.
