All-Ireland Schoolboys Indoor Tournament Report

The All-Ireland Schoolboys Indoor Tournament took place on Wednesday, January 14th at Gormanstown College, bringing together eight of the country’s top schoolboy teams to compete for the national indoor title. It was a fantastic day of hockey, with high-quality matches and a great atmosphere throughout. Newtown School (Munster) were crowned All-Ireland Indoor Champions, while Skerries Community College claimed the Shield title following an impressive tournament performance.

The competition featured six Leinster teams and two from Munster, with the eight teams divided into two groups of four. Each team played three group matches, with the top two in each group advancing to the Cup semi-finals, while the third and fourth placed teams progressed to the Shield (Plate) semi-finals.


Group A

Group A featured Newpark, Skerries Community College, Newtown School, and Sandford Park and proved to be one of the most competitive groups of the day.

Reigning champions Newtown School won their opening match but were defeated 4–2 by Skerries Community College in their second fixture. Skerries had an excellent start to the tournament, also defeating Sandford Park in their opening game.

The final group match saw Skerries and Newpark go head-to-head, with a place in the Cup semi-finals on the line. Newpark produced a superb performance to win 7–3, securing their place in the Cup alongside Newtown School, while Skerries Community College and Sandford Park progressed to the Shield semi-finals.


Group B

Group B consisted of Temple Carrig, Sutton Park School, Villiers School, and The High School Dublin. The group was dominated by Temple Carrig and The High School Dublin, who both recorded strong wins in their opening games before drawing 2–2 against each other. This result saw both teams finish as the top two in the group and qualify for the Cup semi-finals.

Sutton Park School and Villiers School progressed to the Shield competition.


Cup Competition

The first Cup semi-final saw Newtown School take on The High School Dublin in a closely contested match. As the game progressed, Newtown showed their clinical edge and booked their place in the final.

The second semi-final was an all-Leinster clash between Temple Carrig and Newpark. Newpark continued their strong form and advanced to the final with an impressive performance.

The Cup Final between Newtown School and Newpark saw the Munster side produce their best hockey of the day, winning 6–2 to claim the All-Ireland Indoor title. Newpark can be very proud of their tournament, while congratulations go to Newtown School on a superb achievement.

In the third-place playoff, Temple Carrig defeated The High School Dublin to take third place.


Shield (Plate) Competition

In the Shield semi-finals, Skerries Community College delivered a strong performance to defeat Sutton Park School, while Villiers School overcame Sandford Park to book their place in the final.

In the Shield Final, Skerries Community College produced a dominant display to defeat Villiers School and secure the Shield title, capping off an excellent day for the North Dublin side.


Individual Awards

Congratulations to David Rankin (Newpark), who was named Player of the Tournament after producing outstanding performances throughout the day.

The Goalkeeper of the Tournament award went to Dylan Evans (Temple Carrig) following a series of excellent displays between the posts.


A huge well done to all teams involved in what was a fantastic day of indoor hockey at Gormanstown College.
