Social Hockey for Everyone
This week’s Club Spotlight shines on Albert Ladies Hockey Club — a small but vibrant club providing women with the opportunity to keep playing the sport they love in a fun, and supportive environment.
The club runs social hockey sessions every Wednesday morning from 9:15am–10:45am at Rathdown School, Glenageary, and welcomes players of all experience levels looking for an enjoyable way to stay active and connected.
A Little History
Albert Ladies began back in 2013, when a group of women — many of them mums of young children — started a casual hockey group at Castle Park, Dalkey. The idea was simple: create a space where those who had played hockey at school (or even those brand new to the game) could come together to enjoy the sport again, without pressure.
What started with a small group of enthusiastic players quickly grew. Friends brought friends, former teammates reconnected, and newcomers discovered a welcoming place to learn and have fun. As the numbers grew, the group moved to Rathdown School, where they still play today.

The Club Today
Albert Ladies now fields a team in the Vets League, offering members the chance to enjoy competitive hockey in a friendly, age-appropriate setting.
But the heart of the club lies in its Wednesday morning sessions — relaxed, inclusive, and coach-led practices that focus on fun, fitness, and friendship. Many members stay on afterwards for breakfast, and when the weather’s good, a few even head for a refreshing sea swim.
The club’s members range from their 30s through 50s and beyond, united by a shared love of sport and community.
