Young Hockey Leaders Award - Schools
February 21, 2018
Hockey Ireland launch a new secondary school leadership award for 14-18 year olds.
The Young Hockey Leaders Award is perfect for Transition Year pupils that are interested in hockey coaching and umpiring and can be used for young people working towards their Gaisce award.
The 6 hour course introduces young people, aged between 14 and 18, to volunteering. The aim of the programme is to encourage young people to enjoy all aspects of the sport of hockey rather than concentrating on playing only.
The course initially consists of workshops covering umpiring, coaching and some aspects of team management. Once this is complete, leaders must undertake 5 hours of logged contact time (coaching and/or umpiring/team management), giving them an opportunity to develop their newly acquired skills.
The Young Hockey Leaders Award aims to develop confidence in young people by giving them the initial skills and practical experience to enable them to work with younger players.
The cost of the course is €20 per person – 10-18 participants. If you think you will have more than 18 please fill in the form at the link below, and we will get back to you with a quote.
