We are only days away from the start of the Olympics. The game with India will be played next Saturday. The emphasis now is on organising âfanzonesâ at clubs and pubs around the matches. Ten clubs have arranged activities: - YMCA and Muckross have signed=up since last week and joined St Jamesâs Gate, Monkstown, Bray, Glenanne, Three Rock Rovers, Portrane Railway Union and Avoca. This newsletter (number 11) is likely the last in this series. Many thanks to clubs and members who provided the information.
How can you celebrate The OLYMPIC GAMES hockey?
Muckross HC - Muckross will be hosting an Olympics Lunch in our clubhouse of Kielyâs Pub in Donnybrook where they will be showing the games on the big screen - they will even be selling the "Cookie" cocktail in honour of 2s coach Peter Caruth
YMCA - YMCA will be showing Ireland vs. India in The Dropping Well on Saturday complete with BBQ.
Avoca HC fanzones - Avoca HC are showing the India match in The Wishing Well Blackrock on Saturday 6th August, we are hoping to get as many people along to watch the match together, kindly spread the word on any platforms you have. Monkstown Hockey Club Pre Season Olympic BBQ - Itâs that time of the year again when we are getting close to pre-season! Before all the hard work starts we would be delighted if everyone could join us for a pre-season Olympic BBQ in the Tramyard Café, Dalkey, on the 6th of August at 2pm. The Green Machine will also be playing their first Olympic match against India and the match will be shown live on the big screen.
Three Rock Rovers - Thinking about watching the Olympic hockey and wondering where to watch the games? Letâs celebrate history at Grange Road and support our very own Mitch Darling and the rest of the squad.
Bar will be open two hours before each game starts. Bring along your flags, hooters, and everything else Irish to have the best atmosphere in the best facility in Dublin!
Glennne HC (6th Aug) will host an open day for all ages. It will be held in St. Marys RugbyClub with a BBQ, bouncy castles, and games for the kids from 12pm onwards. Bray HC has arranged that all the games will be shown on the big screen in the Martello (the clubs usual gathering place). Other clubs please let us know of any similar arrangements. St James Gate / Guinness are planning a big family day on Saturday 6th August to coincide with the India game.
Portrane HC - Portrane plan a youth camp (6 to 15 years) from 2nd to 4th August. And there is a âtry hockey dayâ open to everyone on Saturday 6th August as part of the parish festival.
Railway Union - On 6th August in association with the India game Railway Union are planning a family day at Park Avenue starting at 1.30. This will be followed by a showing of the match on the big screen.
