Fingal Girls Team - Pilot Program

The Fingal Girls played their first game at the weekend against Railway Union, loosing narrowly 2-0.

The squad is made up of players from around the Fingal Area - Portrane HC, Skerries HC, Malahide Fingal HC, Suttonians HC, St Brendan's Phoenix Park HC, Boyne HC, Swords HC, Donabate CC, Sutton Park, Loreto Balbriggan & Mount Sackville.

Earlier this season, the LHA Development Committee met with clubs in the Fingal Region to try and development hockey in the area.  In addition to regular meetings, the Working Group organised a Fundamentals Coaching Course and Umpire Session.  The WG also decided to pilot a Girls Team to encourage and develop female players in the region.  In the initial trials, over 50 players participated and a squad of 20 was eventually selected.  They will play a further game against Weston before a game against the South East Development Panel.

Speaking earlier, LHA Board member Brendan Carr thanked the Working Group for their efforts to date and said he "looked forward to seeing hockey develop in the region.".
