Expression of Interest: Women’s Chair – Leinster Hockey

Leinster Hockey is currently inviting expressions of interest for the position of Women’s Chair.
This is a voluntary leadership position and a key governance role within the organisation. The Women’s Chair will work closely with the Board, General Manager, committees, clubs, and Hockey Ireland to support the continued growth, quality, and sustainability of women’s hockey across all levels.
As a Board member of Leinster Hockey CLG, the role carries fiduciary responsibilities. This includes contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation, acting in the best interests of Leinster Hockey, ensuring strong governance practices, and supporting oversight of financial and operational performance.
Primary Purpose of the Role
Leadership & Representation
- Act as the principal representative and advocate for women’s hockey within Leinster
- Provide leadership to relevant women’s competitions and development committees
- Represent Leinster Hockey at provincial and national forums, as required
Strategic Development
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans relating to women’s hockey, aligned with Leinster Hockey’s overall objectives
- Identify opportunities to grow participation, enhance competition structures, and strengthen pathways from schools to clubs and interprovincial level
Competitions & Pathways Oversight
- Oversee the effective operation and ongoing review of women’s competitions
- Support the development and progression of representative teams and talent pathways
- Encourage innovation and inclusivity to ensure competitions remain competitive, accessible, and sustainable
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clubs, schools, volunteers, and key stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with other section leads to ensure alignment and consistency across the organisation
Governance & Accountability
- Ensure that women’s hockey structures operate in line with Leinster Hockey governance standards and policies
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Board on progress, challenges, and priorities
Time Commitment
- Approximately 6–8 hours per month
- Attendance at Women’s Committee meetings (monthly)
- Attendance at Leinster Hockey Board meetings (1.5 hours every 6 weeks)
- Additional time during peak competition periods
Qualifications and Experience
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the women’s sporting landscape
- Demonstrated leadership experience, ideally within a sporting or voluntary organisation
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strategic thinking ability with a commitment to inclusivity and long-term sustainability
- A collaborative approach and willingness to work as part of a broader leadership team
