EYHLQ Round Up: Monkstown, Avoca and Trinity Secure Promotion
December 04, 2025
The race for promotion in the Women’s EY Qualifier went right down to the final day, with Trinity Ladies claiming the third and final promotion spot after a thrilling finish. Three teams went into the last round of games with a chance of going up, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion.
The top two positions were already secured earlier in the season, but with two fixtures remaining — Corinthians vs Trinity Ladies and Kilkenny vs Muckross — the final promotion place remained wide open. After both matches were postponed due to frozen pitches, everything came down to Saturday at 2pm.
Trinity held third place heading into their final game and travelled to face Corinthians, who sat just one point behind them. Muckross, also one point off Trinity, made the trip to Kilkenny in what promised to be a great contest.
Muckross delivered an excellent performance and took a strong 4–1 win, meaning they had done everything they could to push for promotion. Meanwhile, the clash between Corinthians and Trinity was tense from start to finish, with both sides fully aware of what was on the line. Trinity showed real composure and quality, securing a 2–1 victory to claim third place and promotion to EY2.

Monkstown and Avoca had already guaranteed promotion prior to the final fixtures. Monkstown produced a dominant campaign, finishing unbeaten with nine wins and one draw. Avoca also impressed, going undefeated with seven wins and three draws — a brilliant achievement from both teams.
Across the league, there were excellent contests throughout, with strong challenges from YMCA, Glenanne and Naas in the chase for third place. Teams including Three Rock Rovers, Kilkenny, and Genesis put in some really strong performances and will be looking to turn these promising displays into results in the second half of the season
The Women’s EY Qualifier was a fantastic showcase of competitive hockey, with the dramatic final day highlighting just how tight the league was. Attention now turns to cup action for many of these teams over the coming weeks.
Well done to all involved — we’re already looking forward to the second half of the season!
