Leinster Hockey October Review

Leinster Hockey October Review

November 05, 2025

What a month! From fireworks and Halloween to a presidential election — October certainly kept us busy, and that’s before we even got to hockey.

And true to form, it was another action-packed month across Leinster Hockey. Here are some of the key highlights through the month:

Senior Leagues

The senior leagues are well underway and starting to take shape.

In the Men’s EY Qualifier, Portrane lead the table with Clontarf close behind, and just four points separating the top five teams — setting up an exciting few weeks as we head into November. In the Men’s Neville Cup, Portrane, Kilkenny, and Clontarf have all secured their places in the semi-finals.

In the Women’s EY Qualifier, Avoca and Monkstown share top spot, both remaining unbeaten after seven games. Only five points separate third from tenth, showing how competitive the league is as we move into the winter months.

All-Ireland Schoolboys Tournament

Five Leinster schools — Newpark, The High School, The King’s Hospital, St Andrew’s College, and Wesley College — travelled to Limerick from 22–24 October for the All-Ireland Schoolboys Tournament.

Three Leinster sides reached the Tasmanian Shield semi-finals, and Wesley College were crowned All-Ireland Champions. A brilliant showing from all involved.

8v8 Finals Tournament

A fantastic day of schools hockey saw 30 teams compete across three venues in the Leinster 8v8 Finals. Congratulations to our winners:

  • Titan Cup: St Andrew’s College A
  • Phoenix Cup: St Andrew’s College C
  • Atlas Cup: Rathdown

Thank you to The King’s Hospital, The High School, and Rathdown for hosting — superb organisation and support throughout.

EY Hockey League

Momentum continues to build in both EYHL competitions.

In the women’s league, Loreto extended their lead at the top, while UCD secured two important wins to move into third.

In the men’s league, Monkstown climbed to third, and Three Rock Rovers edged Pembroke in an all-Leinster clash to move into fourth. Plenty of strong performances heading into winter fixtures.

Club Spotlight Series

Our new Club Spotlight series launched this month, showcasing outstanding work across Leinster clubs. So far we’ve featured:

Boys 5-a-Side Blitzes

October saw the launch of the Boys 5-a-Side blitzes — a brilliant initiative focused on development, fun, and growing the game. More blitzes are planned in the coming months, and it's fantastic to see such strong participation.

Awareness & Community Initiatives

Clubs across the province showed brilliant support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, turning pitches pink and raising awareness.

There was also strong engagement for World Mental Health Day on 10 October, with clubs promoting wellbeing, inclusion, and community connection. Fantastic to see.

Halloween Hockey Fun

Plenty of spooky spirit to end the month, with clubs hosting fancy-dress hockey sessions, fun tournaments, and even trips to Emerald Park After Dark. Great energy and creativity across the province!

Junior Leagues & Blitzes

Our Junior Leagues continued at full pace, with action across all age groups. A huge thank you to all coaches, volunteers, umpires, and parents.

Club Notice — Albert Ladies HC

Albert Ladies HC are welcoming new players to social hockey sessions every Wednesday morning (9:15–10:45am) at Rathdown School, Glenageary — a brilliant way to stay active and meet new people.

Thank You

Thank you to every club, player, coach, umpire, volunteer, and supporter for another fantastic month.

We are looking forward to another action packed November.
