Club Spotlight 1 | Boyne Hockey Club

October 16, 2025

We’re delighted to introduce a brand-new feature here at Leinster Hockey — Club Spotlight — where we shine a light on the fantastic work, ideas, and initiatives taking place across our amazing clubs. These stories show why so many people join and stay part of our hockey community, both provincially and nationally.

In each edition, we’ll explore upcoming events, community initiatives, and the inspiring work happening at clubs across the province — helping everyone in our hockey family to connect and support one another.

For our very first spotlight, we’re featuring Boyne Hockey Club.

Based at Drogheda Grammar School in Stameen, County Meath, Boyne Hockey is a thriving and welcoming club that is open to girls and boys. Founded in 2009, the club continues to grow each season. Known for its tight-knit teams and friendly atmosphere, the club has been running some incredible initiatives to support players’ mental and social well-being both on and off the pitch.

Mind, Body & Field Programme

In partnership with Healthy Meath, Boyne Hockey recently completed its Mind, Body & Field Programme — an initiative designed for girls across Meath, both from within and beyond the hockey community.

The programme focused on three key sessions aimed at promoting mental health, confidence, and holistic well-being:

  • Session 1: Led by Irish Hockey Olympian Róisín Upton, this “Flourish Mind Workshop” encouraged open conversations about mental health and self-confidence. It was a hugely positive day, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved.
  • Session 2: Delivered by Fiona Hackett (DkIT) at the East Meath Civic Centre, this session focused on taking a holistic approach to health — highlighting the importance of nutrition, sleep, and balance.
  • Session 3: Also led by DkIT’s Sean Kilroy, this workshop continued the conversation around holistic wellness, again focusing on nutrition, rest, and overall balance.

Alongside these workshops, weekly on-field hockey sessions took place at Drogheda Grammar School — blending physical activity with education and self-care.

This was a fantastic initiative by Boyne Hockey — empowering young players across Meath and showcasing the club’s commitment to supporting its members both on and off the field. A huge well done to everyone involved!

If your club is running a project, event, or initiative you’d like us to highlight, we’d love to hear from you.
