Women's Masters Report from Swansea

June 28, 2014

The W40s made their mark in a competitive match v England today at the Women's Masters Home Internationals in Swansea, Wales. Despite the score being 0-0 it was an end to end match with both teams creating chances & both GKs pulling off great saves. Ireland had the best of the chances in the 1st half with Hazel Agar & Annette Wilson both coming close. Gillian Garrett & Clodagh McMoreland were having great games in midfield closing England down and creating chances. England pushed for a winner towards the end but Tara Browne pulled off a couple of tremendous saves with Emma Glanville also clearing the lines. Final score 0-0.  Scotland beat Wales 2-1 in the other W40s match.

The W50s competed well against England with Dee Wallace & Julie Wilson creating chances. However Ireland found themselves 2 behind at half time. For the first an English infringement went unnoticed while the second was from a penalty stroke after advantage had been played. Ireland came out strong in the second half and were rewarded early when Jane Salter scored from a short corner following good work by Maggie Hunter.  However, after a turnover England scored a third to retain their 2 goal margin. Ireland continued to attack & following good work by Cathy Walsh, Julie Wilson put the ball in the net. Ireland pushed for the equaliser with Dee Wallace coming close, but the final result was 3-2 to England. In the other match Scotland drew with Wales 2-2.

The Ireland W45s had a tough outing against a strong and experienced English team. Not having the benefit of World Cup experience it took the Irish team some time to reach the pace of the game but they got stronger as the game went on with Annie Lawlor and Alison Gillan showing well in midfield. Final result 6-0 to England.

All 3 teams play Wales on Saturday 28th.
