Leinster Junior Girls Committee Circular

Leinster Junior Girls Committee Circular

November 21, 2013

Following our junior girls club development committee meeting earlier this week we want to bring some key notices to your attention regarding
  • Junior Girls Club League Changes
  • Extreme 8 / 1st year league formats and rules
  • Date changes for Quarter-finals, Semi-finals and Finals
  • Outstanding Results
The next committee meeting will be held in January.

League Changes
Clontarf A and Genesis A have done a straight swap between Minor A2 and Minor B1.

Clubs/Teams who will have to re-confirm fixtures are as follows :
Minor A Section 2 - Hermes, Loreto, Old Alex, Railway and Muckross
Minor B Section 1 - Avoca, Railway, Monkstown, Muckross and North Kildare

If you have a team in that section then you will need to agree new fixtures (dates and home/away venues are the same)

In X8-B2 league Dalkey would like to fulfil their fixtures on a friendly match basis and will be in touch with the clubs to re-confirm fixtures and standards.

Extreme 8s / 1st Year League Format and Rules
We are fully committed to the Extreme 8 game formats. The format is a key part of the IHA long term player development plan.  Skills are being developed which will naturally scale up to the 11-a-side game.and we would appreciate if you could bring the following key points to the attention of your coaches and managers at this critical age group.

For the development of the players and the game, matches should be played with fully padded (including a helmet) goal-keeper. As clubs are still adapting to the new rules, and may not yet have fully resourced up, we are phasing in this restriction

    • Teams playing in the A and B league divisions must field 7 outfield players and 1 goal-keeper. If a team does not have a fully padded goalie, then they will be restricted to 7 players in total.
    • Teams in divisions below A and B may chose to play without a goal-keeper for the round robin stages of the league - but a goal-keeper will be required at the semi-final and final stages of the league.

Pitch Layout:

The game is played on half a pitch, ideally with full sized goals.

The goal width should be the same as a normal hockey goal width.

The pitch should be laid out across a normal pitch (not lengthways).

Full size or close to full-size (14m) circles or full depth (14m) scoring zones to be marked out

Penalty Free

A free awarded inside the circle to the attacking team results in a penalty free instead of a penalty corner. The penalty free is played as follows

    • The Free is taken 5m from outside the top of the circle or the centre of the scoring zone
    • No crash balls to be played into the zone / circle - the ball must move 5m before a shot on goal can be taken
    • ALL players not involved must be in the opposite circle / zone when the free is being taken
    • Defending players (3 including the goal-keeper) do not need to be behind the goal-line for the start of the free

Please also note that the Extreme 8 games are designed to be high scoring – this can mean that in the event of a complete mis-match of standards the games can very quickly become a white wash.  If this turns out to be the case, the advice to clubs is to mutually agree to declare the result at half-time and then adjust the game to ensure a positive experience is achieved for all players.

Quarter Finals / Semi-Finals / Finals : Changes
The following date changes have been agreed:
For X8s and Minors (1st & 2nd years) the dates for semi-finals are 09-Feb and finals will be on 02-March
For Juniors (3rd and 4th years) the semi-finals are on 02-March and the Finals will be on 23-March

In some leagues there Quarter Finals / Play-offs as follows
02-Feb : X8-B, X8-C, Minor C
09-Feb : Junior A and Junior C

We would hope that the finals can all be grouped together again and where possible played on neutral venues.  With that in mind we would like to remind you to provisionally reserve up to 3hrs on your ptich for the 2nd and 23rd March and please advise which pitch / what time slots you have available so that we can start to work on the schedule.

Results : Please submit outstanding results
We appear to be missing a number of results from the Junior Girls Leagues (see below).  I would appreciate if you could send them in by Sunday evening - or advise us of the re-fixed date if applicable. Please remember that all league games and results must be with us by 26th January so that the next round of matches can be agreed.
