Irish U16's International Programme Update

Irish U16's International Programme Update

November 11, 2013

The IHA are introducing changes to the Boys & Girls U16 International Programme which will take affect from 2014.

For development purposes, a decision has been made to withdraw both squads from European U16 competition in line with similar withdrawals by Belgium, Spain & the Netherlands together with England & Germany who had withdrawn in previous years. This change has been made following consultation with the National Senior Coaches.

The U16’s International programme will be focussed on developing players along the Player Pathway to a Senior international Hockey player. Both the U16’s Boys & Girls squads will train in the early part of 2014 in centralised camps and regional training sessions with a test series at the end of June culminating in 4 Nations Tournament in early July.

The U18 Boys & Girls team will remain in Europe with their next European Competition in July 2015.
