Junior Boys Schools Hockey - Circular

Junior Boys Schools Hockey - Circular

October 07, 2013

Following a successful first season of the Extreme 8's hockey the Junior Schoolboys will be running with the same format this year.

It was decided at the AGM that one person would oversee each section rather than one person looking after all the sections. Each person, overseeing each section, will form the committee. There will be a rotational system in place for this in the future. Information for this will be included in the next email.

The old website will not be used this year. Instead results will appear on tables on the official Leinster Hockey website. Claire has very kindly agreed to keep the league tables updated on the Leinster Hockey official website. Details of the email address to send results to will be issued in the next email, once the league entries have been submitted from each school. The results must be emailed to this address, for Claire, on the same day of the game having taken place. This helps for accurate league tables and saves the committee having to chase up results during the season.

The format from last year, had schools that entered two teams, placed in the same section and games in this section took place simultaneously on half a pitch each(Groups 1 & 2). Schools that entered one or three teams (two teams in Group 1 & 2 with the extra team in one of groups 3 & 4) were grouped together (Groups 3 & 4).

Finally we ran the blitz league last year. This worked well when all teams involved in each blitz attended. This will also take place this year. It is for beginner players who have not yet played hockey or have just started playing at a very basic level. Four schools are placed together in each Blitz group. They play 3 blitzes before Christmas, against the other 3 teams in their group (each school hosts one blitz). After the Christmas break the groups are re- grouped for a further blitz group. Players playing in the blitz league cannot play on the other Extreme 8 teams, should their school have entered into any of the other groups.

There will be no penalty corners this year, as was agreed last year.

No penalty corners: A free from outside the D, in line with where the foul took place (inside the D), 5 metres back from the edge of the D will be awarded.

The Extreme 8 rule, then applies for the free in: "Frees awarded to the attacking team around the circle must be moved by 5m from the circle edge. The ball must then move 5m before it is struck into the circle."

Games in the 8 a-side leagues will be two halves of 20 minutes. Half time will be 5 minutes.

Games in the Blitz league: The games will be 15 minutes each in duration. Giving each team involved in a blitz 3 x 15 minute matches.

The red text (below) should be copied and pasted in your reply to this message indicating your entry for your school this year. Entries should be sent to this email address.

League entries are to be received through email by Monday 14th October.

The cost per school is €30 for one team, €20 for a second team and €10 for each additional team.

Gillian Butler has very kindly agreed to be Treasurer of the league this year. All cheques should be made payable to:   Leinster Schoolboys Under 12 Hockey.
