National Lottery Grant - Dept of Children & Youth Affairs
September 25, 2013
If you would like any help with applying for this grant, please don't hesitate to contact your Regional Development Officer, Sue Haslam at sue.haslam@hockey.ie or on 01 716 3266. Sue can help you come up with ideas for programmes to help with the recruitment and retention of players, as well as giving you tips on the application process. Examples of projects would be a coach education project for teenagers, equipment to run programmes in local schools or a retention programme.
Statutory basis The National Lottery Act 1986
Amount of fund - The Department of Children and Youth Affairs entire 2013 allocation is â¬500,000
A similar fund was available during 2012 and 517 applications seeking in excess of â¬13.3m were received. Of these 71 were approved with an average grant amount of â¬7,000 per project.
Grant Levels
In 2013 the Scheme is targeting small scale projects and therefore the level of grant awarded will typically be for an amount less than â¬15,000. In this instance applicants should ensure that proposals demonstrate how a meaningful and complete project can be progressed to completion with a grant of this scale.
Who can apply
The scope of the scheme is for the provision of services to children and young people. Grants are generally awarded for once-off projects including (but not exclusively) providing equipment for youth clubs, youth cafes, sports clubs, scouts, summer camps, day trips for youth clubs/summer camps, play equipment for playschools/crèches and other once- off programs
During 2013, priority will be given to projects and activities that involve:
- Culture, play and recreation
- Children and youth led initiatives
- Vulnerable or hard to reach children and young people
The DCYA National Lottery Scheme has a limited funding allocation and as such is being targeted in 2013 at projects which would not ordinarily be eligible under the other programmes operated by DCYA / DCYA agencies or other Government Departments. In such instances applicants are directed to the following programmes:
- DCYA Childcare Programmes for Capital Grant Funding
- DCYA Youth Organisations and Services Capital and Current Grant Funding
- Family Support Agency Scheme of Grants
- Department of Health National Lottery Funding
- Department of Transport Tourism and Sport National Lottery Sports Capital Funding
The above list is not exhaustive and potential applicants should satisfy themselves that an alternative appropriate source of funding is not available prior to submitting their completed funding request.
N.B. Funding is not available for ongoing running / staffing costs.
