Wesley College Crowned SG Senior Cup Champions

February 06, 2026

On Monday, February 2nd, hundreds of spectators gathered at Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club, with many more tuning in online, to watch a thrilling SG Senior Cup Final between Rathdown School and Wesley College.
In a tightly contested and highly competitive encounter, both teams enjoyed periods of control, but it was Wesley College who found the decisive moment. Evelyn Kwik scored the only goal of the game, sealing a 1–0 victory and securing the SG Senior Cup title for Wesley.

Played in front of a large and vocal crowd, the atmosphere inside Three Rock Rovers was electric from the opening whistle. Rathdown started strongly, applying early pressure in the opening quarter before Wesley gradually found their rhythm. The match quickly settled into a compelling battle, with both sides displaying excellent defensive organisation.

As the contest progressed, momentum swung between the two teams. Rathdown created several promising opportunities, particularly from penalty corners, coming agonisingly close on a number of occasions — so close that the crowd momentarily thought the ball had found the net, only for it to strike the side netting.

Late in the third quarter, Wesley began to apply sustained pressure around the Rathdown circle. Rathdown goalkeeper Phoebe Ford, supported by a disciplined defence, produced a series of outstanding saves and blocks to keep Wesley at bay.

Eventually, Wesley broke through. Kwik’s initial effort was saved by Ford and rebounded off the post, but the Wesley forward reacted quickest to slot home the rebound and give her side the lead.

In the final quarter, Rathdown pushed hard in search of an equaliser, putting Wesley under significant pressure. Sienna Boucher was particularly influential, driving forward with intent and testing the Wesley defence on several occasions.

Deep into the final moments, Rathdown were awarded a penalty corner — the last play of the match — bringing the packed venue to complete silence.
The ball was worked to Boucher, who fired into the net, but heartbreak followed as the goal was ruled out for a high strike. It was a dramatic and cruel ending for Rathdown, who delivered an outstanding performance and enjoyed a remarkable cup run.

A huge congratulations to Wesley College who were crowned SG Senior Cup Champions.
It was a fantastic match and a brilliant occasion, and a credit to all players, coaches, staff, and supporters involved.

The full match is available to watch back on Leinster Hockey + and more key LHA Finals to be announced very soon.
