U14 Indoor Tournament Begins in Portrane!
January 05, 2026
The U14 Leinster Hockey Indoor Tournament got underway over the weekend, marking the start of a busy and exciting month of indoor hockey for our U14 boys’ and girls’ teams. Now in its 14th year, the tournament proudly hosted by Portrane HC continues to grow and develop, with an expanded format in place for 2026.
This year’s competition will see 16 girls’ teams (up from the usual 12) and 12 boys’ teams compete across four weekends in January, promising several weeks of high-quality indoor hockey.
The girls’ tournament is named in honour of the McCann family, long-standing members of Portrane HC, while the boys’ competition is the Tommy O’Sullivan Cup, named after a much-loved Portrane goalkeeper who sadly passed away at a young age. Tommy’s family continue to proudly present the trophy each year, ensuring his memory remains a special part of the tournament.

Tournament Format
The girls’ competition sees teams split across two groups. Eight teams competed in Group A over the opening weekend, with the remaining eight set to play in Group B on Sunday, January 11th. The top four teams from each group will progress to the Cup Finals weekend on January 25th, while teams finishing fifth to eighth will compete in the Shield Finals on Sunday, January 18th.
The boys’ tournament follows a similar structure. Six teams began their campaign over the opening weekend, playing in a round-robin format. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Cup Finals on January 25th, while the remaining teams will move into the Shield Finals on January 18th. The second group of six teams will compete next weekend.
Leinster Hockey was also delighted to welcome Tribes Hockey Club from Galway to this year’s competition, as part of ongoing efforts to support and grow the indoor game nationwide.
