October 29, 2025
What a fantastic three days of hockey in Limerick! From Wednesday 22nd to Friday 24th October, 16 of Ireland’s top school teams travelled to compete in the All Ireland Schoolboy Championships.
Leinster was proudly represented by five schools — Newpark School, St Andrew’s College, Wesley College, The High School, and The King’s Hospital — all delivering outstanding performances throughout the competition.
Three of the four semi-finalists came from Leinster, and after an incredible run, Wesley College were ultimately crowned All Ireland Champions!
Let’s take a closer look at how the tournament unfolded.

Tournament Format
Teams were divided into four groups of four, playing each team in their pool.
- Group winners advanced to the semi-finals to compete for the Tasmanian Shield.
- Second-placed teams competed in the Herbie Sharman Competition to determine 5th–8th places.
Pool A
St Andrew’s College opened their campaign with a tight 1–0 win over Newtown, thanks to a decisive goal from Toby Slyve O’Connell. They maintained momentum with a 2–0 victory over Campbell and secured top spot in the group after a 3–0 win against last year’s winners Banbridge Academy.
A flawless group stage — three wins, six goals scored, and none conceded.
Group Winner: St Andrew’s College
Runner-Up: Newtown School
Pool B
Wesley College made a statement from the outset, opening with a commanding 6–0 win over Bandon Grammar. Johnny Woods and Jake Fulton both struck twice, with further goals from Sam Rothwell and Rory Jones.
They followed up with a 4–0 victory over Sullivan Upper before defeating RBAI 2–0 in what was a tense decider to top their group.

Runner-Up: RBAI

Pool C
The High School and The King’s Hospital both featured in a competitive Pool C.
King’s Hospital opened strongly with a 4–0 win over Villiers, led by a brace from Benson Crowe and goals from Ronan Kelly and Frankie Mallon. High School edged Friends’ 1–0 thanks to a decisive goal from Karac Tipping.
When the two Leinster sides met, High School narrowly came out on top 1–0, before finishing the group stage in style with a 7–0 victory over Villiers. King’s Hospital, meanwhile, fell just short in a 3–2 loss to Friends’.
Group Winner: The High School
Runner-Up: Friends’ School
Pool D
Newpark School competed bravely in Pool D, producing three exciting matches. Despite strong performances, they fel short of qualification — losing 3–2 to Ashton, 3–1 to Wallace, and drawing 3–3 with Cookstown in a thrilling final game.
Newpark brought great excitement to the tournament, lighting up Pool D with their positive play.
Group Winner: Wallace School
Runner-Up: Ashton School
Semi-Finals
Leinster schools claimed three of the four semi-final spots: St Andrew’s College (Pool A), Wesley College (Pool B), and The High School (Pool C), alongside Wallace School.
- The High School vs St Andrew’s: A thrilling all-Leinster encounter that went down to the wire, with High School edging out a 2–1 win.
- Wesley College vs Wallace: Wesley continued their superb form with a composed 2–0 victory, booking their place in an all-Leinster final.

The Final
The all-Leinster final was a brilliant showcase for Leinster Hockey. Wesley College rose to the occasion, securing a 3–0 win over The High School to be crowned All Ireland Schoolboy Champions — a well-deserved title following a series of clinical and confident performances.
Congratulations
A massive congratulations to Wesley College on their championship victory, and a huge well done to The High School, St Andrew’s College, The King’s Hospital, and Newpark School for their outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
